Oname Oceans: Sarah & The Seal

The playfully sweet hint of Litsea and Lavender essential oils lightly combine with oat milk, honey and Rhassoul clay for a gentle, soothing wash!

Sarah and the Seal is our beautiful beige soap, coloured with Rhassoul Clay.  Inspired by the teens in our family, we chose this fine Moroccan Lava clay as a deep but gentle cleanser  to soothe sensitive, blemished or spot prone skins.  Honey and Oatmilk have been added to the soap to also soothe, balance and repair skin.  Natural sugars in the milk and honey draw moisture to the skin and help to hydrate it.  The base oils of this soap bar include Shea Butter to moisturise and soften the skin, while Coconut and Olive cleanse and condition.

While honey attracts moisture to the skin, Oatmilk reduces excess oils and soothes irritation.  Combined with calming, antibacterial Lavender, and a hint of citrus from Litsea, the essential oils add to the moisturising properties of Shea Butter in a soap meant for a gentle wash.

About Your Soap

Oname soaps are ‘All-vegetable’ cold-process soaps.  When we mix our vegetable or plant oils (which are acids) with an alkaline base (we use Sodium Hydroxide) they react and neutralise into a salt which is your soap.  This process is called Saponification.  We use water as our solvent to dissolve the base.  The natural reaction that takes place creates enough of its own heat to ‘saponify’ the oils so no external heat is needed. That’s why our method is called ‘Cold-process’ soap making.  Before we pour our soaps into molds, essential oils are stirred into the saponifying oils to add scent and additional skin and hair benefits. Now, here’s the best bit…Oname soaps feel lovely and soft and have rich, creamy, natural lathers because we do something clever called superfatting. We superfat by leaving some of the gorgeous vegetable oils unsaponified so you can enjoy rich nutritious lathers that nourish your skin and hair, along with other nutrients such as oatmilk, honey, clays and essential oils. During the reaction, the base ingredients change. For example, Olive Oil becomes Sodium Olivate – a sodium salt derived from the fatty acids of Olive oil.   In our ingredients list, you will see what is actually in the bar of soap you are using after saponification has taken place. In addition, we have listed the name of the base oils before saponification and explained how and why we include the other ingredients we use.

How To Wash with Our Soap

If using solid soap is a different experience for you, prepare to really enjoy a new way to wash.  Wet your soap, then take some moments to roll our wonderful round bar over and over in your palms to release the rich and creamy lather.   When washing your face, we recommend using your fingers or a clean cotton face cloth to make small circles with the soap lather around the cheekbones, up over your forehead and round and under the jaw to the neck.  Avoid the eyes.  Rinse well with cool to warm water.  Pat dry.  When washing your body, we recommend circulating the soap directly on your skin.  Remember to inhale the scent of your soap as you wash and enjoy this special part of your day.

Avoid contact with eyes.  Rinse well with water if necessary.

Remember to store your soap in a dry, airy, cool place after use to avoid it going soft.
