Oceans of time has passed since Cedarwood Essential Oil began to be used to calm the mind. Combined with soothing Clary Sage, the sweet and woody scent of our beautiful sky blue soap makes this a real pleasure to wash with.  Inhale as you wet your soap and turn it in your hands to create the lather.  Made for the body and hair, we combined a higher percentage of conditioning oils, such as sunflower and olive oil, with Sweet Almond oil to nourish and restore, while Castor oil makes a great natural lather that gets right to your roots and scalp with a good massage.

Ingredients

Sodium Olivate – a sodium salt derived from the fatty acids of Olive oil
Sodium Sunflowerate – a sodium salt derived from the fatty acids of Sunflower oil
Sodium Castorate – a sodium salt derived from the fatty acids of Castor oil
Sodium Cocoate – a sodium salt derived from the fatty acids of Coconut oil
Sodium Sweet Almondate – a sodium salt derived from the fatty acids of Sweet Almond Oil
Aqua – water
Tocopherol – this is a synthetic Vitamin E oil, added to our soaps to help preserve the oils. Vitamin E is also great for the skin and hair.
Sodium Chloride – good old salt for hardening and to help us demold the soap!
Citric Acid –  we add a tiny amount to our soaps to act as an anti-oxidant to help preserve the oils in our soap.
Kaolin Clay – we use this lovely white clay to naturally colour our soap, hold the scent of the essential oils and to benefit the skin and hair.
Ultramarine Blue Pigment Powder (CI77007) – Synthetic ultramarine is identical in elemental composition and structure to the naturally produced ultramarine but approved as safe due to the removal of heavy metals that occur naturally.  We adore the colour of pigment powders as they hold beautifully in cold-process soap.
Glycerin – Glycerin, or Glycerol, is a natural compound derived from the vegetable oils in our soaps as a product of the saponification process.  This is great news for your skin because Glycerin is a humectant, a type of moisturising agent that hydrates the skin.
Salvia Sclarea Oil* – Clary Sage Essential Oil
Cedrus Atlantica bark oil* – Cedarwood Esential Oil
(*Contain:  Citrol, Geranial, Limonene, Linalool)

* Naturally occurring compounds in the essential oils which we are required to list for your information in case of possible allergens

About Your Soap

Oname soaps are ‘All-vegetable’ cold-process soaps.  When we mix our vegetable or plant oils (which are acids) with an alkaline base (we use Sodium Hydroxide) they react and neutralise into a salt which is your soap.  This process is called Saponification.  We use water as our solvent to dissolve the base.  The natural reaction that takes place creates enough of its own heat to ‘saponify’ the oils so no external heat is needed. That’s why our method is called ‘Cold-process’ soap making.  Before we pour our soaps into molds, essential oils are stirred into the saponifying oils to add scent and additional skin and hair benefits. Now, here’s the best bit…Oname soaps feel lovely and soft and have rich, creamy, natural lathers because we do something clever called superfatting. We superfat by leaving some of the gorgeous vegetable oils unsaponified so you can enjoy rich nutritious lathers that nourish your skin and hair, along with other nutrients such as oatmilk, honey, clays and essential oils. During the reaction, the base ingredients change. For example, Olive Oil becomes Sodium Olivate – a sodium salt derived from the fatty acids of Olive oil.   In our ingredients list, you will see what is actually in the bar of soap you are using after saponification has taken place. In addition, we have listed the name of the base oils before saponification and explained how and why we include the other ingredients we use.

How To Wash with Our Soap

If using solid soap is a different experience for you, prepare to really enjoy a new way to wash.  Wet your soap, then take some moments to roll your wonderful blue bar over and over in your palms to release the rich and creamy lather.  Inhale and enjoy the scent of Clary Sage and Cedarwood to calm your mind.  When washing your hair, we recommend making small circles with the soap on the top and sides of your scalp.  If you have long hair, lift the hair with one hand and rotate your soap near the scalp at the sides, base and top of the head too.  Next, pop down your soap and massage the head, making sure to get the lather right to the scalp.  Then rinse well as usual.   When washing your body, we recommend circulating the soap directly on your skin.  Take your time to enjoy your wash!

Avoid contact with eyes.  Rinse well with water if necessary.

Remember to store your soap in a dry, airy, cool place after use to avoid it going soft.
